Our Philosophy

Since our founding in 1948, we have established a reputation for providing outstanding healthcare. Our highest priorities include:
Exceptional responsiveness and availability, including attending our patients in the hospital and at home, and returning your calls!
Maintaining credentials and continuing medical education to assure that our patients receive the most up-to-date care and advice.
Seeking out and embracing new technologies that enhance patient care while avoiding those of dubious value.
Developing and nurturing an expert and attentive staff.
Our vision of comprehensive care extends beyond our walls. We have developed a carefully chosen network of consulting sub-specialists. Our role as patient advocate includes oversight and coordination of consultants as well as representation of our patients' interests with hospitals and insurers.

Robert Cava, MD, FACP, FACR

Robert Cava, MD, FACP, FACR, has been practicing medicine in the community since 1982. A graduate of Brown University’s School of Medicine and Emory University’s residency training program, Dr. Cava is dedicated to providing an exceptional level of healthcare. His practice is known for bringing cutting edge medicine to patients in a supportive, caring environment.

A clinical assistant professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Dr. Cava is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. He is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care and re-certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care and Geriatrics.

Dr. Cava is committed to continuing his medical education to assure patients receive the most up-to-date care and advice. He has been recognized by NCQA for delivering quality cardiovascular/stroke care and diabetes.

His mission is to serve as his patients’ advocate and adviser in the most compassionate manner possible. He started Miami Medical Consultants to provide the meaningful, one-on-one medical care he feels his patients deserve.

Dr. Sandra Krauthamer

Dr. Sandra Krauthamer

Dr. Sandra Krauthamer MD is a board certified internist. She has been practicing Internal Medicine for the last 9 years. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and Temple University Medical School. As a student she published research in the Journal of Neuroscience.

Dr. Krauthamer completed her Internal Medicine residency training program at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Following her residency she gained experience working as a hospitalist in several hospitals in New York before returning to her hometown of Miami. She lives with her husband and young daughter.

Gloria Nuñez-Turkel

Gloria Nuñez-Turkel, ARNP, NP-C, FNP-BC, has spent her entire professional career working to improve people’s health and quality of life.

Gloria received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Miami and worked as a cardiac and neuro-intensive care nurse. Then she joined Vitas where she worked as a hospice home health care nurse.

Returning to school, Gloria earned her master’s degree in nursing, with a specialty in family health at Florida International University (FIU).

She is certified in family health by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the American Nurse Credentialing Center (AANC), and is an inductee in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

Gloria joined Miami Medical Consultants in January of 2011 and is committed to our mission of providing optimal patient care.

Patricia Arosemena-Romero

Office Administrative

Patty is a native of Panama, who joined our practice in 1990 at the ripe old age of 17. She comes from a large family and has grown into the role of Practice Administrator, otherwise known as “La Jefa.”

She received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Florida International University (FIU).

Patty was instrumental in transitioning MMC into one of the first retainer-based medical practices in the country and has helped several other practices do the same. Through the many challenges of managing a busy medical office, Patty has succeeded in creating a culture that continually aspires to excellence in patient service. One of her patients once commented, “Patty runs a well-oiled machine.”

She is happily married to husband, Ronnie, and has two beautiful girls, Rebekah and Rachel.

Susana Agurcia

Certified Medical Assistant/Xray Technician

Susana first joined the practice in 1995 and is currently the office Medical Assistant.

Her patients lovingly call her “La Vampira” because of her amazing knack for pain-free blood draws. One of her patients was quoted as saying, “I wish I could travel around with Susana with me so she could draw my blood whenever I need to.”

Susana has an amazing memory for details and is the official office “navigator.” Susi is compassionate and very involved in her patient’s care.

She is involved in many projects through her church and is an accomplished gourmet cook.

Miriam Yruretagoyena-Anderez

Senior Care Coordinator/Diva

Miriam is our resident Diva and has been serenading our patients for over four decades. She was hired by our practice’s founder, Edward E. Cava, M.D. in May of 1978 (she jokes that she was 2 at the time). In that time she has come to know her patients very well. “You learn a thing or two and meet many helpful people when you’ve spent so many years in the medical field.” She navigates the healthcare world with ease and her warm heart and soothing demeanor make her an indispensable team member at MMC. Miriam has a gift for accents and languages (she speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese). Give her a challenge and ask her to impersonate your favorite celebrity: you’ll be in for a treat. Her name may be a tongue twister but it sure is fun to try to say. Miriam is very happily divorced, has two grown children and two grandchildren who are the light of her life. She has a special interest in children’s issues and in promoting literacy in her community. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, reading, sewing and sailing with friends.

Maria Elena Rubio

Administrative Assistant

We are so happy to have Maria Elena on board heading our billing department here at MMC. She is the kind and patient voice on the phone that helps patients understand their billing issues. Maria Elena has been involved with our practice for decades in different capacities. She comes to us via her sister Lydia, an old employee of the practice. Thanks Lydia you’ve given us a gem! Mari (as we lovingly call her), is a passionate orchid cultivator. She has brought many a dying plant back from the brink. Her other interests include listening to music and reading voraciously. Ask her and she will enthusiastically provide a recommendation for a good read or good concert. Maria Elena has two beautiful daughters and if you have a couple of hours she will tell you about her fabulous grandkids who are her most valued treasures. Mari has lived a beautiful, real life love story. She married the love of her life when they reunited again after a 40 year separation. Maria Elena has a full and rich spiritual life and is very involved with her church. We are proud to have her on our team.

Brooke Merdjane

Patient Care Coordinator

Brooke Merdjane is the newest addition to the Miami Medical Consultants team. She recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and is currently in the process of applying to medical school. Brooke brings a strong foundation in clinical care to MMC. She is already involved in doing clinical research and her work has been published. Outside of the office, she enjoys exploring Miami’s food scene, petting strangers’ dogs, and perusing the aisles of Whole Foods. She volunteers her time at the Lotus House Women’s shelter, where more than 1500 women and children in transition have been sheltered. Whether she’s assisting a patient or tracking down the best tacos in town, Brooke brings heart and enthusiasm to everything she does.

 

 

 

 

Angie Mena

Patient Care Coordinator

Angie Mena is a Florida native with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Natural and Applied Sciences from Florida International University. She currently works at the front desk alongside Miriam and Brooke.  Angie is kind, quiet and softspoken.  She brings warmth, organization, and a friendly presence to every interaction. She has an innate curiosity of all things “medical”.  She is a gifted problem solver and has endless patience teaching others about computer related issues (which she is adept in). Outside of work, Angie enjoys knitting, crocheting, and cherishes time spent with her husband and their two beloved cats, Pumpkin and Mr. Spice.  Yes, MMC has our very own cat lady, and she is amazing.
