Zika Advisory

Dear Miami Medical Consultants Patients:

We wanted to provide you with information regarding the Zika virus outbreak in South Florida. Each day there are more cases reported in our area and it is important that you understand how to protect yourself and your family. No doubt you’ve been receiving calls from out of state friends and relatives concerned about the daily headlines. Zika poses little risk to most individuals but more serious risk if you are pregnant.

Zika is a virus that is spread by mosquitos. Those infected with Zika may experience flu-like symptoms such as fever, body aches, joint pains, headaches, rash, and red eyes. Pregnant woman are most at risk since the virus can affect the pregnancy and the baby. There are reported cases of transmission through sexual contact so please avoid unprotected sex if your partner is exposed to the virus. Currently, there are no vaccines available.
