Dear Miami Medical Consultants Community:
We wanted to provide you with information about the ongoing global pandemic of COVID-19 and its variant forms. Every day there are more cases reported in South Florida and it is important that you understand how to protect yourself and your family.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease that is spread by airborne droplets. Those infected with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, including, but not limited to: fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, vomiting, and diarrhea. You should seek emergency medical care immediately if you or a member of your household experiences: trouble breathing; persistent pain or pressure in the chest; new confusion; inability to wake or stay awake; or pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds, depending on skin tone.
A number of very safe and effective vaccines are now available and approved to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, and significantly improve outcomes for those who contract the disease. The vaccines are also effective against the more contagious, but otherwise similar, Delta variant which began circulating in South Florida in the summer of 2021. Call MMC now at 305-669-0690 to schedule a vaccination appointment if you or a member of your household over the age of 12 has not yet been vaccinated. Federal health officials now recommend an additional or "booster" dose of the vaccine for moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals; We are currently able to administer Moderna booster vaccine doses. Call MMC at 305-669-0690 to find out more.
There are antibody products that can be given by intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection to patients with COVID 19 infection and symptoms not sufficiently severe to require hospitalization. These have been shown to be effective in reducing hospitalization and severe illness when administered early after COVID 19 infection. We can assist with obtaining these treatments. Please note: they are not a substitute for vaccination and masking/distancing.
Below you’ll find information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help keep you and your family protected.
Please wear masks and practice social distancing!
Sincerely,
Miami Medical Consultants
